Planting; American Classic quilted; Stash reports April 19-May 2

The mid-morning hours were spent planting seeds...
the whole family was involved....
Caitlyn and Cassie filling containers with dirt...

Candace checking to see if the hole was there...

Even I had my pic taken. DH thought he was being so sneaky. Hmpf--I knew he was there the whole time!

Yeah---this'd be DH

In the end, oh gosh---I don't even know how many of each we planted: tomatoes, watermelon, peppers, cucumbers, beans... Those of us who live in the cold north don't even THINK about putting plants outdoors until Memorial Weekend (end of May). In fact, last year on June 19 we had frost!!!! I remember this well because we lost LOTS of plants!!! We're ready this year though---have been saving up the milk cartons for mini-greenhouses and frost protectant once we get to the outdoor stage.

This is a cute lil' indoor greenhouse my parents bought for us two years ago; I can't remember what the occasion was. It's fun to watch the little seedlings sprout, and well.....we live in a cold climate! The only way we'd ever had veggies at a decent harvest time is to start them indoors.

On the quilting front...
I finished up Deer Camp last night, binding, hanging sleeve and label all complete. I still need to hand stitch the label and hanging sleeve down, so ALMOST done....

American Classic was just pulled off the frame and I hope to get binding made up and put on yet this evening. I also am working on the label to attach right away too. It would be nice to ship out some of these quilts that have been just sitting around. I have three ready for Quilts 4 Kids and now the American Classic for Alycia's Warrior Games or No Solider Forgotten.

Happy Sunday...
hopefully one more post to come tonight. I haven't done a stash report in two weeks!

8:45 update
Yeah---I've parked my butt and haven't done anything downstairs other than turn everything off. I'm tired and am enjoying putting my feet up.

  1. The pictures of the kids planting are priceless. I love the tongue sticking out! Too cute! It's nice to get the whole family involved. I have never seen a little greenhouse like this but I live in Texas so....This is a great idea. We have greenhouses down here but they are outside. Your American Classic quilt looks great. Good job. You are doing so good on your quilting. Hugs, Linda

  2. I'd love to have a garden. My coworker already has more lettuce than what she can eat. It is delicious. It's so wonderful that your kids are involved.

Your quilting is gorgeous! Did your frame come with a laser? Or are you using pantos?

  3. I am somewhat depressed, but enjoy seeing the flowers and gardens of those who live much further south! Oh, remember, we have all that COOL weather in the winter to offset all the warmth they have in the summer. Wait--I don't LIKE cold!

  4. Hard to imagine fear of frost. My guys came home crispy and sunburned after a double header football game today. It hit 91 today and we found out that the air conditioner is broken. Hope the little seedlings do well!
The QOV looks fabulous! You seem to have an unlimited supply of pantographs already. It seems to be going well without the stitch regulator. Have you broken down and ordered the laser pointer yet? I bet one of the teachers at school has one in a drawer -- they are very handy to have around.

  5. I adore your red, white and blue quilt - I know the soldier who gets it will be so very grateful.

    Cute kids.

  6. We've got lots of seedlings sprouting upstairs on the bathroom window sill. It will probably be a couple of weeks before they can go out

  7. Cassie looks so like you, a mini-Amy. Oh, there is nothing better than watching seedlings grow and having an indoor greenhouse is such a good idea. I've been able to sow some things outdoors over the last couple of weeks, though the slugs have already eaten my early lettuces!

  9. Oh I want one of those greenhouse things!!!! Do you know where they got it? I think if we took the time to get our plants started in the winter/spring... we'd get tomatoes sooner.

The quilt looks fantastic. You are really going to town on the new frame... congrats!
