Boy, this automatic posting business is SLICK! I never would have thought of it if it weren't for Andee! Thanks girl!!!! Hope your Wisconsin trip went well!!!!
I have a 5K on the schedule this morning---hopefully I'll be doing a "live post" later on from my sister's house....
Another teaser to an August BOM block.....you just wait! Anyone want to take a stab at what block is going to be created from this unit?
WHAT was I thinking trying "set-in" seams?!?!?!? Oh boy!
I will definitely be plastering "CHALLENGING" all over the title of this block once posted!!!! Not only are their EIGHT set-in seams, but there's also a little applique involved. {{a little hint there}}
AND, to be sure you all don't just "not-even-try-it" to begin with, I'm thinking of a little enticement in the form of FABRIC GIVEAWAY to the person who can get CLOSEST to the 12.5" unfinished size of this block. I'll openly admit that the closest I got was 11.5"! Now, I KNOW I'm piecing with the Brother, but still! A whole INCH off what it should be. Really....WHAT was I thinking? At least this BOM has been a learning process for me too! And ONLY A LITTLE RIPPING for me! By the time I was finishing it up, I decided to just leave it and add thin background border strips to what I had. Oooo.....August isn't coming fast enough now. {{Can't BUH-LIEVE I just said that! August means the school year is THAT much closer to beginning}}
HIND-SIGHT THOUGHT: I DO have a theory on my smaller sized block, but that'll have to wait until the block is posted.
I've done ONE other block is my years of quilting that involved set-in seams.
And I kept track of how long it took me to make this block....
TWELVE HOURS just to make this 12.5" block.... This is the state of "UTAH" block that is part of the "Workbasket" State series that my grandmother started years ago. I was enticed to bring those blocks out again to see how many have been completed....
You see Arizona Cactus in there? Grandma had pieced that one. And Florida Star? I had pieced that one (years ago.....'08?)
Oh goodness, the colors don't really go well together, so I STILL have no idea what I'm going to do with these blocks.......I guess that's why they've been sitting and will continue to sit.
You are welcome Amy...I can't believe I didn't try it sooner either! The workbasket blocks are nice..I think it is okay that the colors are unique! I think I have done two blocks with set in seams..one went really well (not sure why) and the other wound up in the back of the quilt I think!
ReplyDeleteScheduling posts is the best!!! I can see that in my laptop-less future! lol
ReplyDeleteThose state blocks look awesome!!!
Can wait to see August's block!
I think you should do a tutorial on how to do this. Y Seams kick my rear AND when I do manage to do them, the block is too small. You must have some words of wisdom?!
