There is something to having peace-n-quiet....but now that the girls are older and more independent, it isn't as easy to "let them go" for a couple of weeks while I'm doing classwork. In years past, I will openly admit that having a break from the constant "neediness" of them at their younger ages was nice.... but now, so much more can be done with them during the summer, and two (maybe even THREE) weeks is a long time to be apart. ...... DH and I headed out from my sister's around 12:30 this afternoon, waving goodbye to the girls as we left for the 5.5 hour drive back home across the state. They will stay with my sister for a week, and then be handed over to my parents for another week (or two).
We drove through two storms along the way; one of the eastern part of the state, and the other on the western part of the state.
OH!!! AND GOOD NEWS! My sewing machine techie worked out a "hand-off" with his neighboring business "Chicken Unlimited" for me to pick up the Bernina since the quilt shop isn't open on Sundays. I should have taken a pic of the chicken place, but simply wanted to get my machine, say SUPER DUPER THANKS to them for being willing to "babysit" my machine so that I could save a 3 hour round-trip some OTHER time in the week to pick up my machine, and be on our merry way again.
So....DH and I already took a walk through the garden, picked a container full of cucumbers, did some minor weeding, unpacked the car and bags (a little bit), and are sitting reading through the mail and just relaxing after the drive.
Thank you for all the CONGRATS comments for our 12th year; he IS a keeper for sure :0)
Happy Sunday.
2/3 weeks is a long time, but they are all going to be loved to death and appreciate you so much when they get back. We'll see how long you can hold out. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about time away from the kids. the peace and quiet is always nice but at bedtime, I sure miss tucking them in when they aren't here. Happy 12th! My husband and I celebrate our 15th next week. So, are you going to quilt all week????
ReplyDeleteWow on the long vacation from the kids....I know what you mean about missing them while they are gone, but I am sure they are loving being with their aunt and then their grandparents...I know I have lots of good memories like that! Congrats on 12 years...a good marriage is hard work and you both are to be commeneded!
ReplyDeleteWow, 2-3 weeks is a long time without kids. I bet you are already missing them...Are you going to sew/quilt the whole time or are you doing something more special? Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI've got that from the end of August for three weeks. First few days of peace are wonderful, then I'm counting the days for them to come home. I am sure they will have a wonderful time, and you will get so much done
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your anniversary and some time alone with your hubby!
ReplyDeleteWOo hoo!!! Some quiet time! I love that! lol
ReplyDeleteI know that you will miss them, but hopefully the time will go by quickly so that you can get the grant stuff done and get back to the regular program of sewing and chilling with the girls! :)
I never, ever had a vacation from my 4 kids when they were young so I have no idea what you are feeling. I think maybe it would have been too quiet for me. But now that I'm an empty nester, I love my quiet days but miss the old noisy days.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time.
Make the most of it while the girls are away. Just think of all the sewing you can do!
ReplyDeleteWhere does your sister live? Heck, you may have been in my area!
Hi Amy, congrats on your anniversary! I finally corraled my husband and had him look at your weeds.....pig weed in the 2nd pictures for sure, and the other one down further he doesn't know the name of but he says its nasty, reproduces like crazy and grows like a vine to choke out other stuff. Hope this helps you out!
