Stumped

I shortened this morning's training run :|  I just wasn't in the mood; simply put... and my self-discipline is a bit weak right now.  **sigh**

I came home, had another cup of coffee, read over some blogs, checked in on Paul... and slowly meandered my way downstairs.

The backing for my "Scrappy Picnic" quilt was pieced.  (Do you see the top through the backing fabrics?)  That hawaiian blue SURE stands out!  The backing, top and prepared batting was folded neatly and set aside for when my quilting frame opens up.

Then, I grabbed the next top that needed a backing...my 2011 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.  However, as soon as I spread it out on the carpet......I couldn't accept it being "finished."  It needed a border.........(sorry, didn't take a picture)

off to look at my shelf for inspiration.....

HM!  It IS purple month in Angela's 2012 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, so....this stack of purple bonus triangles from Bonnie's Carolina Christmas (??? was that the name???) a couple of years ago saw some progress today.

Pressed and organized....
I even pulled out all my other bonus triangles that have been thrown into a collection box over the past couple of years.  I figured maybe I'd do a multi-color border or something....
I just kept playing.....sorting....pressing.
And then, pieced into diamonds.

My purple stack was incredibly larger than any other color;  I ended up with 104 "Diamonds!"
SO...I was stuck with purple only.  But after laying them out next to my quilt center..... :\ .... they didn't look that great.
Hmpf.  Now what?......

A stack of 20 pinwheels made from Orca Bay bonus triangles were spied.
And some orange yardage....
playing around....
trying a different orange.  UGH.  Too bright.
Back to the first orange....and throwing in some green....

A new block created!  And I have enough to make 20 blocks.

So now, to come up with a name.  I chose the colors because I've always like these colors together.  Purple is one of my favorite colors;  the green and orange match so well together.... but a name was not coming to me.  So, enter Paul to the conversation....

Me: What's the first thing that comes to mind when I say purple, orange and green?
Paul: (not realizing I'm talking about a block)....**shrugging** .... The Packers and the Vikings fighting over an orange.
Me:  **rolling eyes**
Cassie:  (looking at screen) It looks like a plus sign.  Or a cross.
Paul: (now observing screen)  Dutch windmill.
Me: Blah.  You guys aren't helping.
Paul:  (walking away) Stumped........

So, until further notice, the block is officially being called "Stumped"  (Although the word "field" keeps crawling into my mind).

  1. Very Nice! Paul's comment sounds like what my son would say...

  2. Near Walt Disney World the town of Kissimmee has lots of green foliage and bright purple poles on the street signs etc. If it were mine, being from Central Florida, I'd call it Kissimmee Sunset.

  3. The diamonds remind me of basebal. With all the ball you've been watching lately, maybe diamond fields?

  4. I like soscrappy's "Diamond Fields" suggestion - I was thinking of "Playing Fields"... other than that, I'm stumped too!
I'm not a big fan of either purple of orange, but these blocks work really well together.
