Another finish; do I have ONE more miracle in me???
Oh, what a day!!!
Packed full and I'm still feeling like I'm going strong.....
Up and revin' the engine by 8:00; hitting the Statistics books until 3:00. (YUP! 7 hours almost non-stop; it's to be expected by now....How far away is January 21st????)
BUT, at 3:00, I literally went from one table to another.....
the dining room table was replaced with my quilting table.....Jen's quilt was a callin'!

Jen's Diamonds (86" x 96")
My SIL and brother have a queen size bed, so this baby will be just the right size! It's pictured on my king size bed.....freshly laundered and ready for packaging and wrapping.
And here's the backing I mentioned yesterday. I burned through a nice amount of stash for this one. The quilting is VERY simple! Horizontal lines! That's it. My SIL wanted it "floofy" {{lol...still love that description}}, so I used polyester batting and VERY little quilting to keep it "flexible." At least it was a quick one to quilt up.
So, I'm wondering....can I pull off a miracle before next Sunday when we celebrate Christmas with DH's family???
I pulled out the fabric I purchased last month for BIL's (DH's brother) quilt. He made his wishes very clear. Simple. Camo. and Heavy! SO! Heavy denim camo was purchased as well as black demin. This fabric is QUITE different sewing than the typical cotton. I will NOT be loading this top on the frame when I get to the quilting point. My plans: purchase a queen size black sheet, cut batting to fit and TIE this quilt.
I took a personal day tomorrow so I could make Caitlyn's Christmas Program at 1:30; I haven't taken a personal day in quite a while, so.....I don't feel too guilty about this one. {{although my Statistics students were pouting that I'm giving them a test tomorrow---on a MONDAY---and I'm not there to answer any questions they may have.}} Anyway....I'll be up to take Candace to before-school care and then I'll be back home working away on Trav's (BIL) quilt. If I get this top done before I leave for my family Friday morning, it will be VERY likely to be completed by Sunday's celebration with DH's family. I have ALL DAY Saturday with no plans other than relaxing at my parent's house....so....PLENTY of time! :0)
Ooooooooo......I'm liking this week's stash report!

Angie's top; RRCB part 2; Cass's birthday; Stash Report Nov. 22-28

Well, the top is as big as it's going to get. I've used just about ALL the fabric I purchased for the top and I'll have JUST enough backing to fit it. (5 yards worth; washed & dried, but not pressed or cut yet.) SO---NAME IDEAS?!?!?!?
And I attempted to kill two birds today...I spent about 45 minutes cutting and prepping for Bonnie Hunter's RRCB mystery part 2 this morning and used the units as my leaders-enders today. I have 9 of the 30 completed from the leaders-enders today. I'll keep them as l/e as I start working on In Flight again.
On a family note: Today Cassie turned 10 years old. As her birthday present, yesterday she and I went to Claire's boutique for her to have her ears pierced.
And finally, Stash Report November 22 - 28
Used/week: 8.75 yards
Purchased/week: 18.125 yards
{{It was a NEEDED purchase that will be gone by the end of next week!!! 5 yards backing for Angie's quilt, 6.625 yards for Angie's top; 4.5 yards backing for Twilight quilt; 2 yards camo for Travis}}
Used/year: 204.799 yards
Purchased/year: 209.403 yards

Morning Run and Stash Report Nov. 15-21 (In Flight - UPDATE)
On and off yesterday I worked on Morning Run. For someone (me) that doesn't overly enjoy the "border process," this quilt is border after border after border after border.... It isn't quite done; one more final black border awaits, but I'm taking a break to watch the Pack and Vikes! (GO PACK!!!)Stash Report: November 15 - 21
Used/week: 7.000 yards
Purchased/week: 6.278 yards
Used/year: 196.049 yards
Purchased/year: 191.278 yards
Net used: 4.771 yards

UPDATE
Grabbed my In Flight hourglass units at halftime of the game. Might as well use the time while watching the Pack KILL the Vikes! :0)

A full, motivating day & Stash Report 11/8 to 11/14
5:55 AM---wide awake! BUT, I resisted climbing out of bed....I was going to give myself until 6:30. The last time I recall looking at the clock, it was staring back at me saying 6:23, but I OBVIOUSLY fell back asleep before I looked again....because the next thing I knew: it was 7:15. Time to start the day.
French toast and scrambled eggs for breakfast; a lil' bit of mass tidy-ing up by all parties; and then by 8:30, I had my nose in my Statistics book with the intent of prepping for the upcoming week. These few sections I accomplished today will be more than sufficient to get us through this shortened week (no school on Friday).
SO......6 hours later....
... I finally made my way downstairs and I jumped right back in to the In Flight units; I needed to finish piecing 120 triangle units, and then....
...LOTS of pressing! 240 total units need pressing; I'm only half finished.
Taking Bonnie's advice (and because I have NOT been liking the fact that I have needed to cut my threads between chains...), I prepped some more leaders-n-enders pieces. I have been working on my Buckeye Beauty Fall swap units, so I chained up a few more strips and twosies in order to make another batch of 4-patches.
And I have an update on the June Mystery quilt's name...Linda from NZ suggested "Crossing over to Winter" which DID get me thinking about the possible name. Since this quilt is most likely destined for a DEAR DEAR graduate in May 2011, the name "Transitions" is striking me as quite appropriate. So, Linda....thank you for kick starting me towards this quilt name!!!
And a drum roll please......
it has been WEEKS!!! since I've updated my stash report.....

A bit of normalcy
Yesterday after lunch, I actually packed up the sewing for the day because I KNEW I needed to spend some time on my Statistics lessons. I can't believe how much I've relearned over these first couple of weeks; I haven't had a Stats class in quite a while, and I've never had the opportunity to teach it, so.....I'm doing my best to stay at least a week ahead of the class. I also took care of most of my other school duties yesterday and the first part of this morning.
By 2:00 this afternoon, I was ready to head back downstairs to see if I could figure out the setting triangles for my Twilight layout.
This fabric used wasn't my first choice, but I didn't have enough of the other material. Without a doubt, I'll be using the light speck fabric as one of my borders to try to lighten the overall quilt, but....yeah....I think this'll turn out just fine. THANK YOU to all of you who responded with the calculation help! I didn't realize that Bonnie's site had the magic wand I needed. Thanks Erica!
I haven't updated my Stash Report in about a month...
Obviously, I haven't used much lately, but I did purchase this set of fabrics with a pattern in mind called In Flight. I need to make a quilt for DH's boss's daughter for Christmas, and I thought maybe this'll be up her alley. I hope to also finish up Judy's June Mystery quilt and perhaps I'll have her choose between the two.
So, Stash Report: September 6 - 12

Yeah...Judy's June Mystery......I was doing SO WELL being on time with that too! But then my Bernina went hay-wire and I never really was able to get back to it once the Bernina came back home due to other projects calling my name. Oh well.....it'll see time again soon!
And we have some new additions to our family.....
It's hard to see here because Mama is protecting the little buggers.......but......
...last week, Caitlyn and Cassie came-a-runnin' in from gathering eggs yelling "We have a chick! We have a chick!" This brooding hen has been sitting on eggs since the middle of July. I kept an eye on her quite a bit at the beginning of August to see if any of the eggs would hatch (21 days incubation). Well, I kinda forgot about her since I've been secluded to my interior dwellings due to my allergies, and since then, she's been "collecting" a few more eggs---obviously! Over the following days last week, three eggs ended up hatching (a fourth would have, but DH wanted to test out one of the eggs JUST prior to the first egg hatching---wonderful timing, huh?) But anyway....three new members joining the Skattebo Ranch ;0)
I'm a bit pooped---just cuz. The laundry is JUST about finished; supper is calling my name to be made (trying a new recipe tonight of Pork meatballs in a homemade BBQ sauce); girls will need a bath tonight; and the Packers are on the boob-tube. So, I think I'll get supper going and then pick up my Stats book again to see if I can figure out the next chapter.
Yes, it felt good to get on the machine at least a LITTLE bit this weekend, but I'm okay needing to take this time away. By the time Volleyball season is over, I'll be 100% raring to go again to complete some of these quilts in time for Christmas.
Happy Sunday Football everyone! :0)

Today made up for yesterday!
Recap: Goal #1: Finish Jared Takes a Wife top: Completed (see post)
Goal #2 of the day: work on the final August block. Completed! Now I just have to type up the instructions, and I'll be set for y'all :0)Then, it was the "look-around-for-the-next-project" time......
For those of you who have been around since the beginning of Amy's Passions, you may remember these blocks????
UFO: Rolling Star - Prior to today, I had 6 blocks pieced; today, all 13 blocks are now pieced.
And appliqued on the red centers. It feels REAL GOOD to have these pieced and ready for the next step!!! Now, I need to see how much white I have in my stash to see if I can move to appliqueing these stars onto a background square to get these closer to a top......but I wasn't done yet.....
My Star Struck swap blocks arrived yesterday; I swapped 12 sets. I had been piecing additional blocks together as a leader-ender project, and I had some inspiritation to finish up the stack I had pre-cut to see how many total blocks I had. Thirty-two blocks in total once I pieced everything. 32, eh? Hmm....4x8; that sure isn't a great layout. 5x6....then 2 go on the orphan-block pile.... :0(
15 minutes and 3 additional blocks later....a 5x7 layout with 35 blocks; AND sashing fabs being auditioned.BOY---I should lay out more blocks on my living room floor! I tried some whites and other lights, but nothing worked better than the "tan" of the hardwood floor, so.....
This was the closest color I had in my stash, and NOT a lot of it (only 26 inches), so....... the sashing ended up being smaller than originally thought: only 1" finished. BUT....no biggy. I like the color! It'll be worth it.I still am going strong, but there IS only so much time in a day before it gets too late, sooo.......it's time for me to turn OFF the machine ;0)
So.......{{drumroll please}}

Stash Report (6/28 - 7/4) & Design Wall Monday
Killing two reports with one post :0)
Although---if I were following suit to Jill, I would keep these two items separate as to get nearer to my 500th post!
Okay, chronological order.....
Stash report: June 28 - July 4
Used/week: 6.542 yards
Purchased/week: 5 yards {{I DIDN'T want to, but needed some "matchy fabric" for the backing on Moondance}}
Used/year 165.692 yards
Purchased/year: 173 yards
Net used: -7.308 yards
I'm slowing working my way back into the black. If I would just stay OUT of quilt shops, I may just make it this week!!!!!
I need to leave for an eye-appointment soon. But upon returning, I DO plan on getting into my sewing area!!!
First up for tackling: Step #5 of Judy's June Mystery. I can't really do much else since they are under the needle and taking up all my table space.
After that, I want to finish up the top for Dizzy, QOV Mystery #22. Step #6 was posted while I was gone over the wekeend. The layout looks SO COOL in pictures, so I can't wait to see it together!!!
THEN, we'll see what time is left for me to actually tackle what is up on my design wall....
....yeah...there hasn't been much change since last week since I finished up Moda Paintbox and Lilac Grove tops that had been calling to me for some time.
So, Happy Monday going out to all of you.

A Sunday in review & Stash Report June 21 - 27

I began my morning by cutting up a few 2.5" and 4.5" strips to make up 6 (actually 8) more sets. Two of the sets will stay with me. So, in the end, I will be swapping 18 total Buckeye Beauty sets. We are being requested to just piece the 4-patches and HST's so that each swapper can choose how to piece the final blocks. My blocks will be pieced just as they are laid out; they'll be made up with the same layout at Bonnie's Blue Ridge Beauty, which is also a L/E project of mine that has been set aside so I can work on my Star Struck swap blocks. DARN! I don't have the Blue-Ridge L/E listed in my WIP! Grrrrrr....now that's 12!
This brought me up to lunch time. After which...
we took some time enjoying the sun that finally decided to show up. After about an hour, we were all back in, ready to start some afternoon projects...
Paintbox was the next project I wanted to spend time with today. I needed to finish piecing the 6 other rows that weren't finished last night. Then---sashing across the width of all the rows. OMGoodness! Pinning, pinning, pinning, pinning, pinning, pinning, pinning, pinning, pinning, pinning, pinning. {{that'd be 11 times in case you didn't count}}. PUTZY and enough to drive any ADHD quilter insane with the monotonous steps!!!!
Cassie asked if there was some way to set her up downstairs by me. With a few adjustments and some hunting for another extension cord, I had a new neighbor ;0)
I helped Cassie with the cutting and sandwiching of her back/top/batting/lining, and then set up the Brother with the FMQ foot. Oooo...Cassie was nervous! The first few attempts were tough, so I had her put on my quilting gloves, which seemed to help a little bit, but she was still strugging with the coordination between foot and hands ;0)
This is where she needed to leave it for the evening because it was time for a bath and then bed by 9:00! She has another dentist appointment at 8:30 tomorrow, so I needed to be sure all the girls got to bed at a SOMEWHAT decent time.
I asked Cassie if it was alright if I quilted up the back of her bag. Naturally, she appreciated the assistance. It was fun to work with a small patch to quilt on with the BSR. I haven't used it in quite awhile. This is also a good shot of her piecing. QUITE a bit wonky and I needed to square up the top and back before sandwiching. Still fun though!
Boy! I had had enough of those Paintbox sashings though! It was like putting on borders and we ALL know how some of us feel about those things!!! So, the final piecing of the top will be a goal for tomorrow. In the meantime, I grabbed my Jared Takes a Wife blocks and finished sewing on the gold and light 2" squares to make the "arrow units." I'll finish trimming off those corners when I'm done posting. And...**GASP**....no double sewing on these! They really are too small for even ME to deal with. They'll just be thrown into the crumb box.
And don't you dare laugh at this! I have FINALLY mastered BOILING EGGS! Yeah, yeah....sounds simple enough, right? But I can't STAND IT when you attempt to peel an eggs and the *&@(*! shell sticks to the egg-white, and you LOSE most of your egg! Oh, and BTW---I HATE yolks! The only time I eat the yolk is if I make up a quick lil' deviled-egg treat! Yummmmmm.... Or if I whip up a quick egg salad. Basically, the yolk only gets eaten if it gets mixed up with Miracle Whip (NOT real mayo. YUCK!)Anyway---my mistake was always putting the eggs in when I first put the water on the stove. I only did it that way because it seemed when I waited for the water to boil and THEN put the eggs in, too many of them cracked due to the instant expansion due to the boiling water. Well---the last batch I boiled, I tried to boil the water first again. Then put the eggs in for 15 minutes. THEN (and I think this is important too!!!), run them under cold water the instant you finish boiling. I even let them soak in cold water for a while (one time it was even over night because I forgot about them).
You'll get one lovely peeled egg just about everytime :0)
Okay, the nervous moment I've been waiting for all week due to all of my NAUGHTY purchases!!!!!

Jared/Wife cuts, Dizzy step 2; Stash Report June 7-13
Well, the afternoon shopping excursion yesterday lasted a bit longer that intended. We left the house at 1:00 and returned at 5:30! We hit Menards and Farm-n-Fleet (both what I would consider similar to Home Depot's for those of you not in the Northern Central states). I have all the supplies to finish up the floor, and actually spent another hour putting in the last of the tiles upon returning yesterday afternoon with the newly purchased mortar. Grouting will need to wait until Wednesday, though, because today and tomorrow, I need to be at school all day for a Data Retreat.
The main reason our trip as long as it did was because we headed up to borrow a tile cutter from a bud of DH. No, no, no.....we didn't get sidetracked THERE....but as we were driving back home, we passed "Uncle Mike's Bar-n-Grill"!!! Uncle Mike was cooking (DH called when we were on the road), so we stopped in for dinner; one of the best Patty Melts around!!!!
In addition to the two "manly" shopping stops, we also stopped by Walmart for a few odds-n-ends. I haven't snuck into the fabric section in quite a while; GOOD THING! I found these lovelies calling out to me! I openly admit that I don't mind buying fabric at Walmart; however I WILL admit that there IS a difference between some of the fabric that is available at Walmart. All three of these feel great; not thin, and were the right price. I finished off the bolt of the gray (~5 yards), and bought two yards of the other gray and gold. They gold is going to be used in Jared Takes a Wife...
...see; I already cut it up! After finishing up the floor and getting the girls bathed, I spent a couple of hours downstairs to end my evening. Almost all of the pieces are cut for Jared. I REALLY didn't have any intentions of seriously diving into this project, but......I was feeling guilty from the fabric purchases, so I knew I need to cut into some more fabric before posting my Stash Report for the week! LOL
QOV Mystery #22: Dizzy, step 2 is almost finished. By the time I got to this point last night (~11:00), I didn't have anything left in me to actually finish up the pressing. It STILL kills me to think that quilters just trim off excess fabrics as "throw-aways" when doing this corner-to-corner "flip" method! LOOK at all of those bonus triangles that will be trimmed to 2", finished as 1.5". I already foresee pinwheels (THIRTY of them that would finish at 3" since there are 120 bonus tris here. What a PERFECT size!!!). I'm sure I'll put together another QOV quilt using them!
So, how'd the week end???? A NEW RECORD of USEAGE!!!!! (but now I have a LOT of projects that need finishing!!!!) Judy's June mystery, QOV #22 Dizzy mystery, Jared Takes a Wife; other projects that used fabric this week: Too Good to Cut Challenge (Moonlight) & Buckeye Beauty block swap.
Stash Report: June 7 - 13
Used this week: 20.097 yards
Purchased this week: 9 yards
Used-to-date 2010: 146.109 yards
Purchased-to-date 2010: 140.75 yards
Net used: 5.359 yards
EVEN with the purchase, I still made it back to the black! No more RED for me!!!
Okay----a few minutes to go check out everyone else's updates and then it's off to the shower to start my day!
Happy Monday!

Scraps decluttered; Too Good to Cut progress; Stash report for THREE WEEKS
How does a mess like this go uncleaned for soooooo long?????? I started the day (Saturday) with sewing on the mind, but.....I was COMPELLED and MOTIVATED to clean up and organize this mess. Who was *I* to ignore the urge!?!?!?!!? I'm SURE you all have a mess like this on the edge of your cutting table, right??? The "collection spot" for all those little ends that aren't big enough for the current project, but too big to toss into the "crumb collection"......yeah, yeah.....
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.............Now THIS makes me want to dig right back in....nothing like a clean, BIG area for cutting........AND LOOK!!!! I found my purple-handled scissors!!!!! Yipeeeee! Most of the scraps were cut into 1.5" logs for my scrappy log cabins.....remember those?
I have 19 blocks completed; pictured are the blocks I did up the first day of this WIP.... I'm feeling inspired enough to dive back into those blocks!!!! Oh......there needs to be more time in this life for quilting! When I eventually sat at my machine, I did make some more progress on my Too Good to Cut Challenge blocks....
This fabric line is so flowerly and "light"----glad I finally took the plunge to cut into them, but.....eh....I'm really not a frilly girl. What was I thinking when I bought these fabs?Okay----onto the stash reports.....
Golly! I haven't reported in three weeks....

Carolina Christmas & Stash Report May 10-16

Carolina Christmas saw a little progress today. I am not following the layout Bonnie suggested; rather this layout was more appealing to me (someone from QuiltvilleChat drafted it up and shared it).

Other news of the day: DH and I started weeding one of the strawberry patches. Goodness gracious---those plants have sprouted all over the place!!!!
And now, I'm pooped! I got sucked into a movie at midnight last night!!! And it was 2:00 before I finally took care of my shut-eye, and then back up at 6:30 a.m., WIDE AWAKE! Dummy me!
So.....

Just getting in my report for last week.
I don't plan on doing any quilting tonight; I'm off to softball in an hour with a Division 1 Ladies league--LATE game! 9:00 start --- in a town half hour away. Ugh! Late night looming ahead!
Icky weather is moving in too------ya think it's too much to ask for a rain-delay?!?!?
{{**crossing fingers**}}
Gosh! I haven't played softball in a couple of years. I left the team a few years ago, but they are in DIRE need of players tonight since most of their players are high school girls. The girls can't play yet since they are still competing in HS ball; therefore, the "sub" list is getting hit up quite a bit these next couple of weeks.
Happy Monday

Planting; American Classic quilted; Stash reports April 19-May 2
The mid-morning hours were spent planting seeds...
the whole family was involved....
Caitlyn and Cassie filling containers with dirt...
Candace checking to see if the hole was there...
Even I had my pic taken. DH thought he was being so sneaky. Hmpf--I knew he was there the whole time!
Yeah---this'd be DH
In the end, oh gosh---I don't even know how many of each we planted: tomatoes, watermelon, peppers, cucumbers, beans... Those of us who live in the cold north don't even THINK about putting plants outdoors until Memorial Weekend (end of May). In fact, last year on June 19 we had frost!!!! I remember this well because we lost LOTS of plants!!! We're ready this year though---have been saving up the milk cartons for mini-greenhouses and frost protectant once we get to the outdoor stage.

This is a cute lil' indoor greenhouse my parents bought for us two years ago; I can't remember what the occasion was. It's fun to watch the little seedlings sprout, and well.....we live in a cold climate! The only way we'd ever had veggies at a decent harvest time is to start them indoors.
On the quilting front...
I finished up Deer Camp last night, binding, hanging sleeve and label all complete. I still need to hand stitch the label and hanging sleeve down, so ALMOST done....
American Classic was just pulled off the frame and I hope to get binding made up and put on yet this evening. I also am working on the label to attach right away too. It would be nice to ship out some of these quilts that have been just sitting around. I have three ready for Quilts 4 Kids and now the American Classic for Alycia's Warrior Games or No Solider Forgotten.
Happy Sunday...
hopefully one more post to come tonight. I haven't done a stash report in two weeks!
8:45 update
Yeah---I've parked my butt and haven't done anything downstairs other than turn everything off. I'm tired and am enjoying putting my feet up.
