I know that many of my followers are only "quilting people." Trust me! Years ago, I NEVER would have dreamed I would have turned into a garden-growing-chicken-egg-layer-preserving person! Specially only in her mid-30s! I mean....isn't this stuff that lil' ol' ladies do?!?!?! (PLEASE, no offense meant there to ANYONE!) :0)
But, since the pizza sauce is simmering on the stove for the next 20 minutes, I can't really leave the kitchen to do much of anything. I CAN, however, plop down on the kitchen table and show you my morning so far.
Alright.....don't judge me too soon!!!
This is the secret recipe of our pizza sauce!!! We found Mrs. Wages last year and tried out the pizza sauce and the salsa recipes---and FELL IN LOVE! We bought these packets on sale for $1.99, so really, it's still going to be a savings in the long run!
BUT HAVE NO FEAR! I have big intentions of trying out many Ball Blue Book recipes this year with the crop of tomatoes we expect.
Pg. 22-23: Tomato Juice; Vegetable juice {{both of these GREAT to use in combination with making chili!}} , and new this year "seasoned tomato sauce" {{going to try this for spaghetti sauce}}
Pg. 24-25: Canned tomatoes (of course!)
Pg. 65: Stewed tomatoes
Pg. 70: Basil-garlic tomato sauce (something new!)
Have any of you found an amazing tomato recipe?? Willing to share the resource?
Happy Wednesday! I have corn next on my daily to-do :0)

Looks delicious! I am sure it will taste even better!
Nigella Lawson's Moonblush Tomatoes are delicious.
Preheat oven to 220 Celsius
Cut 500grams of small tomatoes in half (about 24). Put them cutside up in an ovenproof dish. Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons of salt, a quarter teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of dried thyme, 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
Put them in the oven. Immediately turn off the heat and leave the tomatoes overnight or for a day without opening the door.
Dead easy and lovely with fish, or grilled meat or just with bread and cheese. Or blitz them to make a quick sauce for pasta.
We used to make tons of salsa every year and always used the secret recipe of Mrs. Wages! Nice and easy and very good!
Having a garden is a lot of work, but so worth it when you get to eat from it year round, and think of all the money you are saving at the store. Good for you. I hope to have a garden this time next year in Utah. Still have about 4 weeks till I know for sure, till then I will watch all your pickins and dream!
I used to can ALOT, tomatoes, peaches, pears, applesauce, freeze corn and beans when the kids were little.....then I ran out of steam and got tired for fighting them to help LOL
So I enjoy seeing what you are canning, freezing, etc.
No offence taken! I think doing the home cooking, preserving thing etc., is really a state of mind and a lifestyle choice - not really about age. I am probably about 20 years older than you (a baby boomer) and I can definitely say that many, many women of my age (boy does that ever sound old!) never had any desire to cook let alone can or preserve. Convenience foods are extremely popular for a reason - I've used them plenty of times too but I have also done more home cooking than not, particularly once I had kids.
I definitely have to try that tomato recipe - thank you to Amanda.
