Little happinesses!

I LOVE my clothesline!  What a great energy saver; yummy 'out-doorsey' smelling clothes;  what's not to like?

{{Well, I suppose I could admit that I don't like having to re-wash some clothes that get some bird-droppings on them due to the few nests we have under the upper deck flooring, but still.....Psht!}}

A small update on the bat-capades:
Candace put on her big girl panties the other night and grabbed the net to make sure the coast was clear before heading to bed.  LOL.  The reality... after 20 minutes of being upstairs, she came down by me, scared of the bat.  :)  Ah well... Paul wasn't home, so I didn't mind the security company. :)   No sign of it since my episode the other night.  :\

Monday morning zooming by already!  The girls have started summer school;  dropped them off at 8:00 for that.  I've been working non-stop on laundry since;  folding some older baskets that have been wrinkling up for the past few days (**sigh**) and keeping some fresh loads going in the washer and on the line.  So, finally... I'm CAUGHT UP!

A little motivation was found at NINE O'CLOCK PM last night to clean girls' bedrooms and the loft.  LOL.  Nothing like summer motivation striking that late, huh?  BUT, we made a GREAT dent by 10:00;  all dirty clothes thrown into the hamper;  closets and drawers a little bit organized of what does/doesn't fit (THAT task will be continued today!!!!).

The house has been tidied up enough to be presentable for my parents who will be rolling in in a couple of hours.  They'll be spending a few days with us to enjoy a couple of summer days with the girls and to watch them play some softball games.

So now...

... Seven Shirts!  Yup.  I think I want to set that as my "to-finish" goal for today.  A couple more passes with the pantograph and that should do it.  Then, whip up some binding to mark it as a finish.   We'll see....

Happy MONDAY!

The World needs more Heroes

As the evening sun sets...

....and evil, treacherousness lurks around every corner...

...and darkness settles into tiny crevices....

....the bats prepare for their evening of torment...

HAVE NO FEAR!!!!
{{cue triumphant horns}}

Our fearless Housewives of the World are ready!

GAME ON!

{{And I hope this isn't me when the lil' bugger shows itself tonight!}}

LOL
Gotta have fun in life, right?!?!?!

Batty experience!

Ugh
Ick
SHUDDDDDDDDER

Allow me to set the scene for you......

It's dark out.  A beautiful morning moments away.  Windows open in the house, allowing a cooling breeze to blow through.
And she sleeps.
Blissfully in the deep slumber of sleep.
Dreaming of the quilts to be made this summer....light fabrics, plaids (for you Alycia), summery colors, 2" strips, 3" HSTs...ahhhhh....., completely in a state of relaxation....

....to suddenly be BOLTED awake by the light flutter of wings.

It's like my brain asked and answered all these questions in a nano-second......
That's not a normal sound.
What could be making that sound?
At night?
In the dark?

Because I'm SERIOUS!!!!!  I can't believe that such a "whisper" of a sound, made my eyeballs POP open!
The realization of what could be making that "whispering wing flapping sound" lead down only ONE path!
Cuz there ain't no bird gonna be flying around my bedroom at 3:30 in the morning!

Oh, you cute and adorable little creature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOT!

So, what'd I do????
First, I wished that Paul was home.  Sadly, he's working night shift! :\

Second, I just laid there, frozen, quilt drawn up to my chin...listening.....
...afterall, nothing can see you or hurt you when safely covered up by a quilt.  I mean...it's like a bullet-proof vest!

And then the wing flutters sounded again!
CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP

So, in stealth-like manner, I slowwwwwwwly reached for my glasses.   Slowwwwwwwly started uncovering the layers of sheets and quilts....

and BOLTED for the bedroom door, slamming it closed behind me!

Of COURSE, I had to post in FB right away.  And text my husband!  So, with the world and house still DARK, while at the kitchen table, typing away, and updating Paul via text messages.....

.....SWOOP!!!!!
The little bleepity-bleepy swooped (there really isn't a better word than swooped!) by my legs. I suppose I could say it "glided" past my legs..... but "glided" is such a beautiful word!  DEFINITELY not a descriptor of this menacing beast!!!!!

You ever see anyone do the freak-out dance?!?!?!?!?!!?
Just try to get a picture in your head.... (and it's okay to giggle a little bit at what you see), cuz THAT WAS ME baby!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!

How did it get out of my room?!?!?!  PLEASE don't tell me there's more than one!

I then commenced into turning EVERY light on on the main floor, all the while moving in a crouched position.  I suppose I could say I looked like a lioness, ready to POUNCE at the very sight of the next swoop!

Lights on:  Kitchen, Dining, Living, Bedrooms, Loft, Entryway, Laundryroom, Bathroom.  AND, I grabbed the ever dangerous, but oh-so-terrifying BROOM!  So now, this lioness even had a WEAPON!

Watch out Mr. Bat!

And now.  I sit.  Keeping eyes in lookout mode! Wondering where the little bugger is!  Wondering how the little bugger got into the house!
I have a feeling it saw me grab the broom and decided it should try to keep its life for at least one more day, because I haven't seen it since it flew up into the loft area.

And guess who works the next TWO nights ?!?!?!!?!?!?   Paul.
So, guess who will be sleeping on the couch with broom ready by her side?????????

**NOD**
Yup.  Me!

"Dad, there's a bird in the house."

10:15 pm
Fresh out of the shower, teeth brushed, and ready for bed.....
Caitlyn: "Dad, there's a bird in the house."

I was already upstairs tucking Candace in bed and I faintly hear Caitlyn say this to Paul.

Paul: "There's a bird in the house? ......... Oh honey, that's no bird..."

Meanwhile, I now register the full conversation JUST as the bat swoops over my head in the doorway of the bedroom.....

I DUCKED!!!!!!!! AND CROUCHED as low as I could to the ground!

Candace is registering that something is flying in the room and jumps out of the bed.....

Meanwhile, the bat has swooped back OUT of the bedroom, and I lose track of it. Heading to the stairs, Candace's hand in my own, Caitlyn at the foot of the stairs....

Me: "Girls, where is your butterfly net?"

Paul: {{in the background}} "That's too small."

{{a few moments pass......}}

Paul: {{entering with fishing net}} Where'd it go?

I had been scoping the ceilings in search of it (crouched low at the head of the stairs), fairly certain it had gone into Caitlyn's room.....and....

Bat: SWOOP.....it starts flying around in the high lofted ceiling.......
Me: "EEK!" {{crouching even lower, pointing...}} There it is!
Paul: {{net in ready-position}} ....SWOOOOOOOSH!

Paul saves the day by catching it in his first attempt.

NO, this is NOT my hand! Ewwww! And, NO, I did not have the camera handy, so this picture will have to do....it looked just about the same as this. About the same size......And as Paul started adjusting the net so the girls could see it, it started struggling to get free. THANKFULLY, it didn't, although the center of the fishing net has much bigger holes that it could have wiggled out, but Paul adjusted the net again.

The SOUND it emitted......I had never heard a bat's sound before, and it was eeeeeerie!

10 minutes later and after questions of 'how did it get in the house?' from the girls: AMAZINGLY, we didn't hear a PEEP out of the girls once finally tucked into bed and some coaxing with kisses and hugs. Then again, it WAS late and we worked them late in the evening in the garden.

However, I ALSO am wondering how it got in the house. And......**gulp**......does it have a family?
