In Flight finished

In Flight (67" x 79")

Cassie chose to stall the day away, so in the meantime, I kept doing some quilting with In Flight that was on the frame.

The backing was the same as the border fabric and part of the blocks. I was wise and purchased it at the same time as all the top fabrics.

Now.....on to some mowing.

On the frame...

MIL's Dressed to the Nines quilt was quilted and bound first thing this morning. Nothing fancy, just outline quilting.

She used some lace and ric-rac to embellish the waistlines of the dresses. A dearing touch :0)

Surprisingly, I didn't feel I needed to sit with any new project; instead, I pieced and loaded backing on the frame for In Flight. A couple of hours were put into it....until I ran out of thread. I KNEW that I was going to run out, so I figured I'd quilt until that time and then move on to the next task :0)

Next? Our rhubarb patch needed to be picked.

12 cups were set aside for me to make some Rhubarb Slush tomorrow. Eight packages of 3 cups each were bagged and frozen. All set again for the upcoming year. I must admit, it WAS nice to take a package out throughout the winter to have some Rhubarb Crunch.

This is a later post; I played softball tonight at 8:30 and arrived home a bit after 10:00. I needed a bit to eat so warmed up some soup, and now am sitting with my feet up watching "Disclosure".

Finally, this sign was shown on Green Fairy's blog the other day, and it really says it all :D! I managed to fit in about 5 loads of clothes today and even some closet tidying. Yesterday, a few hours were spent in Caitlyn's and Candace's closets; weeding out clothes too small; stocking the shorts/t-shirts drawers and setting the warmer clothes aside for now. A few times today, I was the nagger motivator to push the girls to finish cleaning their rooms. They finally did with my final threat of "No Painted Walls unless it's clean in 45 mintues!"

Five gallons of paint now sit in the entry-way; two gallons of Royal Blue and one gallon of Yellow for Cassie. She wants a "school colors" room. Two gallons of "rich purple" are for Caitlyn's and Candace's room. I have a feeling tomorrow will involve some painting :0)

The Design Wall fight...

I headed downstairs at 7:00 tonight after dinner, kids homework, etc..... you know the routine.

And, I didn't feel like quilting Green Beauty....so I didn't.

Instead, I pulled out some of the blocks I had created months ago for Bonnie Hunter's Blue Ridge Beauty just to see how they were looking.....

And it wasn't long before I heard In Flight arguing with the newly placed blocks for design wall space.....

So, rather than insisting that they place nice together, I figured I might as well just bite the bullet and piece the rest of the In Flight rows together to be able to set the top aside.

And rather than just stopping at the quilt-center, I decided to continue biting that bullet and get the borders on right away before this turned into a UFO.

In Flight (67.5" x 79.5")

Yeah...pretty happy with an unexpected flimsey finish tonight!

And now my BRB blocks were happy.......

SEE! They started growing! It's not Saturday, BUT my Scrappy Rainbow Challenge finally saw some action, AND a UFO at the same time :0)

Hey....I even decided to quilt another pass of Green Beauty before heading up for the night too. Maybe that quilting will get finished tomorrow night.

In need of design wall space; Rainbow challenge stalled

8:00 - 12:15 I was dutiful and worked diligently on my AP Statistics lessons; moving into the subject of Inference on means via t-Distributions........blah, blah, blah, right??? ;0)

From that point until 2:00 it was a combination of lunch and super-speed house cleaning with Christmas items being stashed away from another year and gifts finally finding homes in various locations.

Then, at 2:00----I said ENOUGH. Time to get downstairs....

My first goal: start sifting through THIS mess {{pointing up}} to find some blue fabs. This mess {{pointing up}} are boxes and boxes of donations from my mother; donations via garage sales and cleaning up the Church Volunteer quilt-group supplies (a group that never meets anymore) :0( Hm, too bad I wasn't closer to her; maybe I'd volunteer to get it running again.

I found a couple of nice blues. **chuckle** In fact, those bottom two fabrics were TOO nice, so rather than cut in to them, I pressed them and folded them neat and added them to my stash :0) **shaking head, giggling** So much for busting THOSE fabrics! BUT, the top darker blue plaid-style has been cut into 2.5" strips to be used for some more Star Struck Blue units AND to be used as binding for either that quilt and/or Blue Ridge Beauty. Through this process, I've decided to set a newly updated goal to help me tackle that mess of boxes:

Each month, I will VOW to use at least four fabrics for my Rainbow Challenge from the depths of these boxes. {{I'm actually hoping this will help me knock these stacks down to little or nothing and get it either in projects or pressed/folded nicely on my shelves. Who KNOWS what other gems lurk in there????

Anyway...THEN I wanted to see how many units I have for each of these UFOs (Blue Ridge Beauty and Star Struck Blues), BUT....

....this was still the state of my design wall. I had NO room!

No biggy....I just started piecing those blocks together. I couldn't BEAR just taking them down only to have to reset them some other day. Psht....that's just stupid, right? So....about an hour in and half is pieced, but sadly, family duties have taken me away from my room for now. (until maybe after the girls go to bed).

I ordered Bonnie's new book. Excited to have yet another signed copy of a Bonnie book in my sewing room come February!

LOL!
I just checked in on the girls because they were getting a bit loud and crazy....

Oh dear....

...tell me Candace, how does that make you feel??

Okay...off I go.

Oh, and YEAH PACKERS!!!! We made the playoff after beating the Bears!!! WOOOO!!!!

Some evening progress...

Truly, truly, I had NO intentions of finishing up step #4 of RRCB tonight when I headed downstairs. I merely wanted to prep for it. But...psht.....by the time I had the fabrics cut and organized, my movie of choice still had about half the time left, so....I starting strippin' away. I finished step #4 while watching New Moon AND even had time for a snack break! {{I made a pan of Rhubarb Crunch this afternoon---yum!}}

It was only 9:00, and I wasn't really tired yet. I was up for some mindless piecing.......

I grabbed the hourglass units for In Flight that had been lain aside a month ago. I finished piecing them into these pinwheel units by 10:15.

Before I completely closed up shop for the evening, I took another 15 minutes to sort the units on the design wall. It's been empty for weeks!

Hmmm...still not overly tired. Wonder how much caffeine was in that tea I had this evening!??!!?!?

Morning Run and Stash Report Nov. 15-21 (In Flight - UPDATE)

On and off yesterday I worked on Morning Run. For someone (me) that doesn't overly enjoy the "border process," this quilt is border after border after border after border.... It isn't quite done; one more final black border awaits, but I'm taking a break to watch the Pack and Vikes! (GO PACK!!!)

Stash Report: November 15 - 21
Used/week: 7.000 yards
Purchased/week: 6.278 yards

Used/year: 196.049 yards
Purchased/year: 191.278 yards

Net used: 4.771 yards

Oh...and nothing to report yet from Hunting Camp 2010.

UPDATE
Grabbed my In Flight hourglass units at halftime of the game. Might as well use the time while watching the Pack KILL the Vikes! :0)

Friday Night Sew in (UPDATE)

Yeah...so....

Mr. UPS guy shows up at 6:00 pm with my package of fabric I ordered earlier this week.

I had been looking through some quilt magazines Tuesday night, enjoying some down-time. This quilt caught my eye; DH had spoken to me a month or so back wondering if I would be willing to make a quilt for the daughter of his head contractor. She loves horses, but I simply have not come across anything that I deemed worth making for her; too many horse fabrics are "tacky" and "BLAH" looking. So, I had started the In Flight quilt with her in mind.

BUT NOW....

This quilt seems to be right in line for the 12 year old daughter.

So....In Flight was set aside for the time being and Morning Run has taken over full control of the machine and ironing board.

I purchased the center panel and the outer border fabric, but the rest is coming from my stash. The panel and border fabric have already been through the washer and are currently in the dryer. I started cutting and piecing some of the units for the inner border but I'm taking a break (maybe for the rest of the night??) in order to sit and cuddle with the girls and watch a movie.

While I was on that site, I also decided to splurge on a Moda Jelly roll (Fandango) with the pattern "Random Reflections" in mind.

So....definitely looking forward to another day of quilting tomorrow and perhaps later tonight once the movie is over and the girls are tucked off in to bed.

SAT AM UPDATE
I pieced the first units together, pressed, and trimmed, ready for the center panel.

In Flight progress...

The afternoon consisted of a lot of relaxing and putzing on the computer, but I also made some more progress on In Flight by completing the piecing and pressing of the 120 hourglass units. The corners need to be cut yet and then pieced into blocks before these units are complete.

Taking a small dinner break right now with the girls; a lil' bit of a schmorgesborg (pizza, corndogs, tacos).

Then....FRIDAY NIGHT SEW-IN!
GOAL: the next phase of In Flight.

A full, motivating day & Stash Report 11/8 to 11/14

5:55 AM---wide awake! BUT, I resisted climbing out of bed....I was going to give myself until 6:30. The last time I recall looking at the clock, it was staring back at me saying 6:23, but I OBVIOUSLY fell back asleep before I looked again....because the next thing I knew: it was 7:15. Time to start the day.

French toast and scrambled eggs for breakfast; a lil' bit of mass tidy-ing up by all parties; and then by 8:30, I had my nose in my Statistics book with the intent of prepping for the upcoming week. These few sections I accomplished today will be more than sufficient to get us through this shortened week (no school on Friday).

SO......6 hours later....

... I finally made my way downstairs and I jumped right back in to the In Flight units; I needed to finish piecing 120 triangle units, and then....

...LOTS of pressing! 240 total units need pressing; I'm only half finished.

Taking Bonnie's advice (and because I have NOT been liking the fact that I have needed to cut my threads between chains...), I prepped some more leaders-n-enders pieces. I have been working on my Buckeye Beauty Fall swap units, so I chained up a few more strips and twosies in order to make another batch of 4-patches.

And I have an update on the June Mystery quilt's name...Linda from NZ suggested "Crossing over to Winter" which DID get me thinking about the possible name. Since this quilt is most likely destined for a DEAR DEAR graduate in May 2011, the name "Transitions" is striking me as quite appropriate. So, Linda....thank you for kick starting me towards this quilt name!!!

And a drum roll please......
it has been WEEKS!!! since I've updated my stash report.....

Break time... "In Flight"

After lunch, I headed back downstairs and decided to pull out my fabrics from an August purchase with my MIL. Some of these fabrics belong to the set for a pattern called In Flight. A few of the fabrics weren't present, so I substituted.

After a few hours, I think I'm in need of a break. At this point, I have most of the pieces cut and partially sewn into pinwheels...... Maybe that 6 AM start is catching up with me, because my eyelids are fighting to stay open as I type. Maybe after a lil' nap, I'll head back down later this afternoon/evening. {{Hmmm...maybe it was that glass of wine I had with lunch????}}

A bit of normalcy

Yesterday after lunch, I actually packed up the sewing for the day because I KNEW I needed to spend some time on my Statistics lessons. I can't believe how much I've relearned over these first couple of weeks; I haven't had a Stats class in quite a while, and I've never had the opportunity to teach it, so.....I'm doing my best to stay at least a week ahead of the class. I also took care of most of my other school duties yesterday and the first part of this morning.

By 2:00 this afternoon, I was ready to head back downstairs to see if I could figure out the setting triangles for my Twilight layout.
This fabric used wasn't my first choice, but I didn't have enough of the other material. Without a doubt, I'll be using the light speck fabric as one of my borders to try to lighten the overall quilt, but....yeah....I think this'll turn out just fine. THANK YOU to all of you who responded with the calculation help! I didn't realize that Bonnie's site had the magic wand I needed. Thanks Erica!

I haven't updated my Stash Report in about a month...

Obviously, I haven't used much lately, but I did purchase this set of fabrics with a pattern in mind called In Flight. I need to make a quilt for DH's boss's daughter for Christmas, and I thought maybe this'll be up her alley. I hope to also finish up Judy's June Mystery quilt and perhaps I'll have her choose between the two.

So, Stash Report: September 6 - 12
Used/week:
1.438 yards
Purchased/week:
12 yards

Used/year
181.735 yards
Purchased/year:
185 yards

Net used:
-3.266 yards -- Back in the red. No big deal to me.

Yeah...Judy's June Mystery......I was doing SO WELL being on time with that too! But then my Bernina went hay-wire and I never really was able to get back to it once the Bernina came back home due to other projects calling my name. Oh well.....it'll see time again soon!

And we have some new additions to our family.....

It's hard to see here because Mama is protecting the little buggers.......but......
...last week, Caitlyn and Cassie came-a-runnin' in from gathering eggs yelling "We have a chick! We have a chick!" This brooding hen has been sitting on eggs since the middle of July. I kept an eye on her quite a bit at the beginning of August to see if any of the eggs would hatch (21 days incubation). Well, I kinda forgot about her since I've been secluded to my interior dwellings due to my allergies, and since then, she's been "collecting" a few more eggs---obviously! Over the following days last week, three eggs ended up hatching (a fourth would have, but DH wanted to test out one of the eggs JUST prior to the first egg hatching---wonderful timing, huh?) But anyway....three new members joining the Skattebo Ranch ;0)

I'm a bit pooped---just cuz. The laundry is JUST about finished; supper is calling my name to be made (trying a new recipe tonight of Pork meatballs in a homemade BBQ sauce); girls will need a bath tonight; and the Packers are on the boob-tube. So, I think I'll get supper going and then pick up my Stats book again to see if I can figure out the next chapter.

Yes, it felt good to get on the machine at least a LITTLE bit this weekend, but I'm okay needing to take this time away. By the time Volleyball season is over, I'll be 100% raring to go again to complete some of these quilts in time for Christmas.

Happy Sunday Football everyone! :0)
