one of those days....

To keep this short......

I HATE days like this! I HATE that I am going to have a sleepless night tonight because of something that I feel I handled correctly, but ended up backing down to a misinformed parent. I HATE that I let myself down today by backing down. I HATE that my mind will not allow it to rest; that I'll keep revisiting the day and the "woulda/coulda/shoulda's".

I suppose I can wrap myself in all the Walker garbage; THAT might actually make me feel better right now.

BLAH!

Try to let it go. Some things are just not worth it, life is too short. Take comfort in doing the best you can everyday and loving those who you truly care about.

This very post is the sign of a real teacher. One who cares this much about the big picture. Don't beat yourself up. Instead remember what an incredible teacher you are!

Oh, parents! The good ones are terrific, but the poorer ones are a nightmare and can ruin an otherwise good day. The problem with teachers is that we're programmed to see so many different views and to accommodate them in class that it's difficult to be any different with parents. And then there's always that little voice in the background, the head's voice, saying 'we can't afford to lose any families'. I hope you manage to get some sleep, so much gets resolved in our minds when we do manage to let go.

Frustrating - but remember with some parents you can't win - they don't *get it* and won't. You did your best -and we all know you are awesome!!

So sorry! I HATE those kind of days! I know what you mean about how your mind keeps going over and over and around and around...In Psych class they call co-ruminating when teen girls talk for hours about their problems; unfortunately, it ends up leaving them MORE depressed! Ugh. (Plus, the idea of a cow chewing on it's cud is not pretty!) So, you must keep busy (I KNOW that you of all people know how to do this!)-and banish the thought from your mind whenever it attempts to sneek its way back in! You've learned your lesson for next time, so it is time to move on!
You're awesome!

I would encourage you to try to leave it behind but I know it isn't easy. I have been retired nearly 7 years and there is one conversation that I had with a parent that still annoys me. I caved and I know I should not have done it. Not right for the kid in the circumstance. What does it teach anyone. If Mom and or Dad are loud enough they will look after you forever. Hang in there there are far more good situations around. Concentrate on them. Joanne
